The Impact of Planting Early

Planting Early Can be Beneficial If You Plan Ahead and Use the Proper Measures Against Yield Robbing Dangers

Posted on: February 16, 2023

On this episode of Cup of Joe, our team at Merschman Seeds discusses the earlier crop insurance dates and the impact of planting early.

According to Farm Week, the official planting dates for Illinois have been moved forward ten days. This means farmers will have the opportunity to plant ten days earlier and still qualify for free replant on their crop insurance. Iowa and several other states may be moving forward with earlier planting as well.

The main reason behind planting your soybeans early in the beginning of April comes down to the number of days the soybean plant has in the reproductive stage. The more time you can be in the reproductive stage, the more plants you can expect to yield.

However, due to the cool and wet conditions of earlier planting dates, our team believes that Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) will be more prevalent. The powerful strength of Saltro® is recommended for fields that have had a history with SDS. Starting Line Plus™ is combined with the powers of Saltro and Trunemco™, which ensures protection from SDS.

Insects are an additional yield-robbing danger you should be aware of when planting early. When you plant early you are susceptible to underground feeding since the plants and seeds are coming up at a slower pace.

Overall, if you want to plant early, make sure you’re planting Merschman Seeds with Starting Line Plus for superior protection and higher yield potential.
